It is a well known fact that any lines or frames can draw your eyes towards a picture. This is why we usually frame our pictures.

A more plausible reason why we use frames though is to protect the picture or artwork from any possible damage that could harm it.

The framework of any art is supposed to be aesthetically pleasing and made to enhance the picture that it is framing. That does not mean that it has to be made of such quality that it actually takes the focus away from the picture completely.

This is why it is important to not only get the thickness of the frame correct but also the make of material used for the framework. There are many options available today for materials used in frameworks. As well as the traditional frames made from wood you can also buy metallic frames and plastic frames.

Plastic frames are more often used for housing commercial type posters, while the Metallic frames usually look good on minimalist pictures and are often denote classy stylish pieces of artwork.

For example if you were decorating a room that was quite contemporary in appearance then you would probably go for a frame that was quite sleek and stylish.

With the same principles in mind if you had an old Victorian style house then to compliment the antique furniture and surroundings you would probably opt for a frame that was made from traditional wood. This would probably be of a thick stylish appearance. A country cottage may have designer frames with twigs or leaves adorning it.

Frames can come in all shapes and sizes and can be readily found at many stores both online and offline. You could even buy customized frames for irregular shaped pictures or pieces of art.
