The couple stood along Michigan Avenue with their daughter, Karen Weed, and great-granddaughter, Madison Weed. ?
?It was a last-minute decision to come out,? Rose Williams said. ?I think it was because the weather was so nice, and she (pointing to Madison) was a big influence.?
The 4-year-old made sure to get a front-row view along the curb to watch twinkling floats and blaring bands march past her. ?
The hour-long parade with "A Jingle Bell Christmas? theme started at 6 p.m. and traveled east along Michigan Avenue. ?
Lights adorned the ladders and wheel rims of Summit and Blackman-Leoni township?s fire trucks. Lights even climbed their way up the trombones, clarinets and trumpets of local high school marching bands.
A chimney stack peaked out of the ?roof? of a flat-bed Emmons Service truck; a giant inflatable Santa sat in his sleigh ready to place presents under the tree. ?
Chugging behind hundreds of Girl and Boy Scouts were tractors from the 1950s. Not far behind was the popular Hot Air Jubilee float shooting flames out of the top. ?
?That was my favorite float,? said Ryan Ladd, 7, of Cement City. ?Because when it came close it warmed me up.?
It was Ryan's fourth year attending the parade with his parents, Carol and Jim, and younger brother, Tyler. ?
?We drive up here from Cement City every year,? Carol Ladd said. ?We hit all the different parades in the summer and fall, but this is by far our favorite.?
Rounding out the parade, of course, were the stars: Santa and Mrs. Claus. ?
Madison Weed and many other children could be overheard asking when they would get to see Santa. Cheers and clapping could be heard throughout the streets when the jolly couple were finally spotted. ??
?I really wanted to see him,? she said with a smile. ?Santa is my favorite.?
When the parade was finished, people were invited to attend the fifth annual ?Christmas at Hollywood and Pine? at the Michigan Theatre. The Jackson Chorale?s Children?s Choir performed traditional holiday tunes and a free screening of the movie ?Home Alone? was played. Lining the halls of the theater were Christmas trees decorated by local nonprofits, vying to be voted the favorite. ?
