At Home Family Fun Day! | stoptbpartners.org

This past Saturday we had absolutely no plans, for once. Phew! My husband and I dreamt of the days (pre-kids) when we had nothing to do and we did just that, nothing. Since lazy doesn?t really exist in the land of parenthood we decided to have a ?lazy? family fun day at home. We even vowed to turn off all electronics. This included our precious smartphones that we seem to always have in our noses as well as the camera that I always have in the boys faces. This way our focus was 100% on the kiddos. I did manage to sneak a couple of pics, but sorry for the lack of imagery on this post. Here is a list of how our day ended up playing out.

  1. Breakfast in Bed. All four of us snuggled up in our bed and ate. We did have to wash the sheets after, since cleanliness isn?t a strong suit in two young boys, but not a big deal.
  2. Puzzles. We worked together as a team to get them put together.
  3. Toilet Paper Madness. Totally random, but boys being boys I knew they?d love the unconventional use of T.P. We took a roll of T.P. and unrolled it around each other like mummies. Their favorite part was busting out of the ?cocoon?, as they called it. We then taught them the good old fashion art of toilet papering a house, using their playhouse. They got a kick out it. The mess then turned in to a toilet paper snowball fight. After we raced to see who could clean up the most the fastest.
  4. Noodle Art. I got out some recycled computer paper, dry noodles from the pantry, and glue and let them go to town. They thought using food for art was great and they got pretty creative with it.
  5. Board Games. The boys especially enjoyed Go Fish, but we also busted out Chutes & Ladders, Candy Land, and Red Rover. Drew needed a little more help, but he did pretty well for a 2 year old.
  6. Inside Picnic Lunch. I got out our picnic equipment and set up shop in the family room. Just made an easy lunch of PB&J?s and some fresh fruit.
  7. Family Naptime. Troy and my hubby cuddled up in our bed and I slept with my littlest man, Drew. I loved falling asleep next to his sweet breath and heavy breathing. And it was nice to catch a mid day snooze rather then worry about my to do list.
  8. Outside Play. The heat seemed to die down a bit, so we got out all our bikes and rode around our driveway and cul-de-sac. We also teamed up and played some basketball and soccer. Teaching our boys about losing is always a good lesson for these major competitors.
  9. Baking. We made some yummy vegan cookies to devour after dinner. My boys always love baking and today was no different. I love my little kitchen helpers!
  10. Formal Dinner. My oldest son, at 4 ?, loves to set our formal dining room table since we rarely sit at it (reserved for guests usually). So while I made dinner he set the table. Daddy got out the necessary items, Drew, our youngest at 2, took what he could (non-breakable items) to his big bro and Troy did a great job setting everything up any way he wanted. We even lit some candles and did a family cheers.
  11. Play-doh. I rarely bring out our play-doh stuff because a. my youngest still seems to have an obsession with eating it and b. it?s such a hassle to clean up. But with Daddy by my side it wasn?t quite a task. They had a great time and we just loved watching their imaginations run wild. They served us waffles, pizza, and ice cream.
  12. Obstacle Course. The boys helped us set up an obstacle course all through our house using everyday items such as pillows, blankets, toys, buckets, balls, etc. They had a ton of creativity with this. Troy loved directing us all and making the rules. It was also a great end of the day activity to get a little more energy out of them before bed.
  13. Reading. After some clean up and a quick bath we all got in our jammies, turned off the lights, and read books in bed with a flashlight. Simple idea, but so fun for the boys to do something different. And my little one actually sat through all the reading, unlike his normal behavior of running in circles around us during bedtime stories.

We all got some great memories out of this day. It was awesome quality time for just the four of us. No hustle and bustle of getting everyone ready, bags packed, and out the door for a scheduled busy day. The boys enjoyed doing new things, making their own decisions of what to do, as well as the one on one attention. Sitting down and typing out this list it seems like we did a lot in one day. Who knew all the things we?d come up by just staying home and being unplugged? It was so nice to just go with the flow, not have a plan, and just be us. It put a whole new meaning on being ?lazy?, and the kind we would never want any other way.

Family hug!
