She's certainly easy on the eyes, and Miranda Kerr most recently lent her gorgeousness to the cover of the October 2012 issue of Cosmopolitan South Africa.

The 29-year-old Aussie supermodel is featured in a column titled 'Inside Miranda's World' while dishing about everything from her body booster and what she uses as her motivational tool to her favorite gift of all time.

Highlights from Miss Kerr's interview are as follows. For more, be sure to pay a visit to Cosmopolitan South Africa!

On her body image secret:
"I have a good relationship with my body and I think that comes down to the fact that I listen to what it's telling me. I'd say the only thing I can sometimes deprive my body of is sleep, and it's in those moments of being tired I can feel a little overwhelmed."

Our her body booster
"My all time best beauty tip is to dry-brush your body daily. It improves the functioning of the lymphatic system, improves circulation and leaves skin smoother. It also keeps cellulite at bay."

On her motivational tool:
"I have pictures of places I'd love to go, people I hope to meet, things I'd like to do, and even pictures of friends and family I pray will remain in my life. I find it uplifting to look over the images and focus on them as part of my future."

On the best gift she ever has received from Orlando:
"One time in Paris, we went to The Hemingway Bar beneath the Ritz. Sitting there, we were inspired to write love notes to each other. I didn't know he'd kept these until a few years later - at Christmas - he presented me with a frame containing all those notes. [It's] my favorite gift!"

Before first presidential debate, allies debate stakes

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Three days before the first presidential debate, allies of Barack Obama and Mitt Romney debated on Sunday how the encounter between the White House contenders will influence the U.S. election.

In typical straight-talking fashion, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie predicted that fellow Republican Romney's performance at Wednesday's debate would alter the course of the campaign, weeks before the November 6 vote.

"This whole race is going to turn upside down come Thursday morning," Christie told CBS' "Face the Nation."

His comments strayed from the script of both campaigns, which have tried to play down their own candidate's chances at the debate in Denver and talk up their opponent, thus making it easer to claim victory or explain a defeat on Wednesday.

"I think what we need is a big and bold performance on Wednesday night, and that's what he's going to give us," Christie said of Romney on ABC's "This Week."

Romney comes into the first of three presidential debates with poor poll figures in important battleground states and as he seeks to recover from a leaked secret video where the former private equity executive described nearly half of Americans as dependents on government who view themselves as victims.

"We've had some missteps, but at the end of the day the choice is really clear," Romney's vice-presidential running mate Paul Ryan told "Fox News Sunday."

Ryan lowered the stakes for Romney's debate performance.

"I don't think any one event is going to make or break this campaign," Ryan said.

Obama departed for Nevada, where he will bunker down with aides in a "debate camp."

But Obama was not focused just on scoring points against his rival, senior adviser David Plouffe told NBC's "Meet the Press."

"I think the president's view is, he's not worried about zingers and lines, he's got time with the American people to explain to them his case for re-election," he said.

Obama was joined on Air Force One by Plouffe, chief of staff Jack Lew, economic adviser Gene Sperling, and speechwriter Jon Favreau.

The White House and Obama's campaign are guarding against complacency, with polls showing the Democrat ahead nationally by around 5 points, and much more in some swing states.

"We're not going to win battleground states by 10 or 12 points. This race is going to tighten. We've built a presidential campaign with a belief that it's going to come down to a few votes in a few states," Plouffe said.

A PARTY AND PREP

Romney remained in Boston for private meetings, including debate preparation, at his campaign headquarters.

Not all of Romney's hours have been devoted to studying and sparring with his debate partner, U.S. Senator Rob Portman.

On Saturday evening, Romney attended a party at the Wellesley, Massachusetts, home of his finance chair, Spencer Zwick.

With a stretched Hummer limousine blaring party music and several school buses parked outside the home, chants of "Mitt!" could be heard from within. Romney departs for Denver on Monday.

His wife, Ann, will campaign in Nevada and Ryan will embark on a bus tour of eastern Iowa on Monday.

Both are swing states, critical victories on the path to presidency, where Romney has trailed in recent polls.

Miami-based Venezuelans to vote in New Orleans

MIAMI (AP) ? By bus and car, commercial flight and charter, U.S.-based Venezuelans are traveling en masse to New Orleans in the coming days, spending hundreds of dollars and in some cases more than a day of their time to cast a vote in their country's presidential election.

The government of President Hugo Chavez earlier this year closed the country's consulate in Miami, where most Venezuelans living in the U.S. have cast ballots in the past. It later said voters would have to travel to New Orleans if they want to participate on Oct. 7.

It's a hardship in terms of time and money for many potential voters. But some, especially those who want to stop Chavez from being re-elected after 13 years in power, are determined to make the trip anyway.

Carolina Guevara, a 21-year-old college student, plans to take the 15-hour bus ride from Miami to the Louisiana capital, an 870-mile (1,400-kilometer) trek.

"We want to demonstrate to the government that even if they put obstacles in our path, we will practice our right to vote," said Guevara, who hopes to return to Venezuela after completing her political science studies at Miami Dade College.

The Venezuelan government closed its Miami mission after the State Department expelled consul Livia Acosta amid an investigation into recordings that seemed to implicate her in an Iranian plot for a cyber-attack against the U.S.

The closure affected nearly 20,000 Venezuelan voters living in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina who had registered to vote at the Miami consulate. Most Venezuelan voters in the United States live in the Miami area and the vast majority of those are critical of the Chavez government.

After the Miami mission closed, Venezuelan election officials said that voters registered there would have to cast ballots in New Orleans, where the next-nearest consulate is located. Venezuelan opposition leaders accused the government of trying to disenfranchise voters, a charge officials denied.

"They tried to do everything possible to prevent us from voting," said Gisela Parra, a former judge who left Venezuela in 2005 after being accused of conspiring against Chavez. "The pressure was such that they had to open a voting center far away, in New Orleans. It's like punishing us."

Parra, who plans to volunteer at the New Orleans voting center, said Venezuelan electoral officials "had the obligation" to make another Miami location available.

But Tibisay Lucena, president of Venezuela's Elections Council, countered that voters registered in Miami "were relocated using the same criteria used inside the country, telling them to go to the nearest polling station."

About 15,800 Venezuelans in the U.S. voted in their country's Dec. 2006 presidential election, three-quarters of them in Miami.

Of the 10,800 Venezuelans voting in Florida, 98 percent cast ballots for the opposition candidate and 2 percent for Chavez. Thirty-four percent of registered voters did not participate, according to figures from Venezuela's Elections Council.

Most Venezuelans in the U.S. are professionals or businesspeople who left their country after Chavez became president in 1999. The number of Venezuelans in the U.S. burgeoned from 91,500 in 2000 to 215,000 in 2010, according to the 2010 Census, with 57 percent of them living in Florida.

Numerous groups surfaced to assist U.S.-based Venezuelan voters, with information distributed on the Internet and social media, as well as at coffee shops and bookstores frequented by Venezuelans.

The groups include Voto Joven and Voto Donde Sea, comprised mostly of young people, and the Mesa de la Unidad Democratica, or Democratic Unity Table, a coalition of political parties backing opposition presidential candidate Henrique Capriles.

Beatriz Olavarria, who leads a commission created by the opposition alliance to distribute voter information and mobilize observers, said she hopes at least half of the voters registered in Miami will cast ballots in New Orleans. "Something tells me that many people will get on board at the last minute," she said.

Olavarria, who has volunteered in Miami during past Venezuelan elections, created the website www.Miami7octubre.com, to provide information about the New Orleans vote.

The group's major push now is figuring out how to get registered voters to the Louisiana city, where balloting will be held in a convention center. Opposition members complain that voting will not occur inside the mission itself, but Lucena, the electoral council president, said "the rules state that the polling center must be as near as possible to a consulate."

In most cases, traveling from here to New Orleans to vote would require at least one night away from home.

With travel costs a major obstacle for many potential voters, financial adviser Andres Casanova and his childhood friend Andres Morrison are collecting donations to pay for charter planes to ferry Venezuelans to New Orleans.

So far, they have received almost $355,700 in donations, enough to pay for trips for 1,100 voters. But far more people ? as many as 3,000 ? have registered on the organization's website, www.aerovotar.com , for seats assigned on a first-come, first- served basis.

Voto Donde Sea, meanwhile, is collecting donations to subsidize bus fares for voters, said group leader Vanessa Duran.

Milagros and Fernando Nunez Noda are renting a car with another couple to make the trip from Miami.

"We're going no matter what," said Nunez Noda, a journalist and businessman.

"It's like they threw down a challenge," he said of the government's decision to move the balloting to New Orleans. "We will prove our strength."

(AP) ? Homer Bailey had a certain milestone on his mind when he walked to the mound Friday night. He wound up pulling off an even bigger feat.

Bailey pitched the seventh no-hitter in the majors this season, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 1-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The right-hander began the night with 195 innings pitched this season and was eager to reach 200 for the first time in his six-year career.

"I looked up at the scoreboard (after the fifth inning) to see if I had hit 200 and saw a couple of zeros," Bailey said. "That's when I knew I had a chance at a no-hitter. It's not something you think about doing."

It was the 15th no-hitter in Reds history and first since Tom Browning's perfect game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sept. 16, 1988.

The seven major league no-hitters match the modern record for one season, tying 1990 and 1991. There were eight no-hitters in 1884.

"I don't think there is any reason why there have been so many," Bailey said. "There is a real fine line there in throwing a no-hitter. A bloop can fall in the outfield or an infielder can be in the wrong position and there goes your hit. You have to be extremely fortunate to throw a no-hitter and we had luck on our side tonight."

Bailey (13-10) struck out 10 and walked one. He threw 115 pitches and retired the side in order in the ninth, striking out pinch-hitter Brock Holt before getting pinch-hitter Michael McKenry and Alex Presley to pop out.

When second baseman Brandon Phillips caught Presley's popup on the outfield grass, Bailey was mobbed near the mound by happy teammates and doused with water.

The 26-year-old Bailey improved to 5-0 with a 1.40 ERA in six career starts at PNC Park. All three of his complete games and both his shutouts have come against Pittsburgh.

It was the first time the Pirates had been held hitless since Hall of Famer Bob Gibson pitched the lone no-hitter of his career in 1971 for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Cincinnati, which clinched the NL Central title last Saturday, improved to 95-62. The Reds are tied with Washington for the best record in the NL.

Bailey has been touted as a future ace since Cincinnati selected him seventh overall in the 2004 amateur draft following his senior year of high school in LaGrange, Texas.

He has a 38-33 career record and has set a season high for wins. Reds bench coach Chris Speier, serving as acting manager while Dusty Baker recovers from a mini-stroke, thinks the no-hitter could serve as a benchmark moment for Bailey.

"He's always been a good thrower, but he's really learned how to pitch this season," Speier said. "You saw the evolution tonight."

The other no-hitters this season were thrown by Philip Humber of the Chicago White Sox, Jered Weaver of the Los Angeles Angels, Johan Santana of the New York Mets, Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants, Felix Hernandez of Seattle and a combined six-pitcher effort by the Mariners. Humber, Cain and Hernandez each had a perfect game.

Pittsburgh (76-81) made its own bit of history as it was assured of a 20th consecutive non-winning season with the loss, extending its major North American professional sports record.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Bailey had more than luck going for him. Hurdle sensed Bailey and catcher Ryan Hanigan were on the same page right from the first inning.

"They were spot-on with almost every pitch," Hurdle said. "He kept throwing fastball up and away and breaking balls down and in and it was just an effective combination."

It was also the first no-hitter caught by Hanigan, who broke into the majors with Bailey in 2007.

"It's very special because Homer and I have been there every step of the way," Hanigan said. "It's great for Homer, it's great for the organization and it's just great for the team because it's another special moment in what has been a very special season."

Bailey retired his first six batters before third baseman Scott Rolen booted Clint Barmes' leadoff grounder in the third inning for an error. Bailey then set down 13 straight until walking Andrew McCutchen with one out in the seventh while clinging to the one-run lead.

McCutchen stole second but then was thrown out by Hanigan attempting to steal third. Garrett Jones flied out to the warning track in right field to end the inning.

Cincinnati needed to make just one above-average defensive play behind Bailey. Left fielder Todd Frazier ran down Presley's flare toward the foul line to end the third.

With the Reds employing a defensive shift, left-handed hitter Pedro Alvarez lined out to Rolen in the eighth.

"I thought the no-hitter was gone when Alvarez hit that ball, but fortunately the shift was on," Bailey said.

A.J. Burnett (16-9) allowed seven hits in eight innings with five strikeouts and one walk.

"The way A.J. pitched, it was going to take almost nothing short of a no-hitter to beat him," Hurdle said.

The Reds scored in the first inning on Frazier's sacrifice fly after loading the bases with no outs on singles by Phillips and Zach Cozart and a walk to Joey Votto.

Phillips, Cozart and Rolen all had two hits.

The loss continued the Pirates' downhill spiral. They have gone 13-36 since moving a season-high 16 games over .500 on Aug. 8 with a 63-47 record.

NOTES: Speier said he had a telephone conversation with Baker, who has missed the last nine games. Speier said the veteran manager "is feeling very, very good and looking forward to getting back." Baker is scheduled to rejoin the Reds on Monday night when they open a three-game series at St. Louis to end the regular season. ... Pittsburgh 2B Neil Walker will miss the rest of the season because of lower back soreness that has limited him to eight games in September. ... Reds LF Ryan Ludwick, who has missed eight straight games with tightness in his left groin, is expected to return to the lineup Sunday. ... Cincinnati RHP Mike Leake (8-9, 4.73 ERA) will face Pittsburgh RHP Kyle McPherson (0-2, 3.54) on Saturday night.

'Angry Birds' spinoff 'Bad Piggies' is the whole hog

6 hrs.

You really can't go wrong spending the pocket change or the time it'll cost you to buy and play the newest game from the creators of "Angry Birds." When it comes to puzzle gaming for your mobile device,?"Bad Piggies"?really is the whole hog.

The "Angry Birds" spinoff from Finnish game company Rovio (which launched in Apple's App store Thursday)?has everything you'd want from a great mobile game???the bright art,?oddly lovable characters, ear-worm music and, most importantly, the highly-polished, infectious and thought-provoking puzzle gameplay you can jump into and out of at (almost) a?moment's notice.?

But let's get something straight: Though this game is clearly?a sister/spin-off/sequel to the?phenomenally?successful Angry Birds games,??there is nary a slingshot or irate?avian?to be found in "Bad Piggies." As the name implies, this game is all about the birds' egg-thieving?nemesis. And, more importantly, "Bag Piggies" has a gameplay?mechanic all its own.

In this game, those endlessly hungry porkers are trying to reach the birds' eggs,?but the map that leads to their delicious location has been torn to shreds. And so, it is your job to help your porcine buddies collect the pieces of the map, which are spread across more than 60?different levels.

But since the pigs are, well, nothing but snouty, leggless?orbs and thus entirely unable to move on their own, you're tasked with constructing contraptions to carry them from starting point A, across, over and around various landscapes and obstacles, to end?point B, where the map piece is.?

Plenty of other contraption-building games have come before, but with "Bad Piggies" Rovio has distilled the this kind of physics?puzzle?gameplay down to its sleek, accessible and addictive?essence.

The first two worlds???"Ground Hog Day" and "When Pigs Fly"???are each made up of 45 levels full of landscapes that must be rolled across or flown through. ?At the start of each level, you'll be given various items with which to make your pig-carrying jallopy???boxes, wheels,?balloons, fans, explosive soda pop bottles, umbrellas,?engines, propellers, rockets,?etc.

Once you've put your contraption together, you set it in motion and see how far you get.?But even when your pig is on the move, your work is not yet done. For example, if?you've attached a fan and a couple of soda pop bottles to the box with your pig in it, you'll have to smartly set the fan blowing or set the pop bottles exploding at just the right time to get your porcine?friend where he needs to go.

And often, he will not get where he needs to go.?This is a game in which, if at first you don't succeed,? you must find joy in try, trying again. You are certain to send your pig careening into walls and plummeting to the ground whereupon your contraption will bust to pieces. But that's OK. The fun?here comes in not only?learning from your mistakes but watching your mistakes happen.

As with "Angry Birds" (and plenty of other puzzle games), you'll be challenged to earn?three stars in each of the first two?worlds. But this time around, Rovio lets you know exactly what you need to do to get those?three stars. And these goals vary from level to level.?

You can earn a?star by, well, running into a?star placed in a hard-to-reach locale, or by?getting your pig??from the starting point to the map in a certain amount of time, or by making it through the level without damaging your?contraption?at all. Sometimes you collect a star by creating a contraption that gets you from point A to point B without using a specific part that would make that journey easier. And sometimes you'll be rewarded for getting the?Pig King through the course too.

And the star collecting ramps up to entirely new and epic proportions?once you unlock the Sandbox levels in the game. These sprawling levels toss 20 stars across vast landscapes and then give you a large?supply of parts with which to build your contraption. The goal here is to see how many stars you can get to. And snagging?more than a few stars is no easy task.?But it is an absolute blast to create and then?tinker with?the most madcap pig-rig you can think up as you try to inch your way to each star.

Of course, the question that will always follow Rovio is: Will this game be as wildly successful as "Angry Birds?" We can't help but wonder: Have they, once again, captured that mysterious something that will earn "Bad Piggies" the?billion downloads their feathered friends have?earned?

If I was a betting person, I'd say no. Not because "Bad Piggies" is a bad game in any way, but because?"Bad Piggies" will require more of you???and your brain???than Angry Birds does. While you could kind of mindlessly send your bird slingshotting through the air in "Angry Birds," you can't just mindlessly send your piggy rolling down a hill ... at least not if you want to be remotely successful.

You need to think about what you're building, you need to refine your work and you'll need to stay focused as your pig is in motion. It will certainly take you more time to get into the groove of this game???and that could be offputting to some casual players. But ultimately this?is?a good thing.?"Bad Piggies" is,?in many ways,?more challenging than its angry brethren?and, I think, because of that it is?more rewarding. It really is an absolute joy to see your pig fly ... and reach his destination in one piece.

"Bad Piggies" is?99 cents for the iPhone?here?and?$2.99 for the iPad here. It's $4.99 in the Mac App store here. And you'll find it for free on Google Play?here.?Rovio says it is coming to PCs and Windows Phones "soon."

Winda Benedetti?writes?about video?games for NBC?News. You can follow her tweets about games and?other things on Twitter here?@WindaBenedetti,?and you can?follow her?on?Google+.?Meanwhile, be sure to check?out the?IN-GAME?FACEBOOK PAGE?to discuss the day's?gaming news and reviews.

Something is Brewing at Coffee + Food | The Cultured Seed

GET YOUR BREW ON AT THIS NEW NOLA EATERY

Everybody should believe in something? I believe I?ll have another coffee. Unknown

Shhhhh? It isn?t even official yet, but someone told me that there is something a-brewing in North Larchmont. So of course, we had to head over to check for ourselves. What we found is NOLA?s newest eatery Coffee + Food, an exquisite take on two of mommy?s most prized necessities.

The coffee? well, put it this way?I don?t usually like to drink coffee unless I am back home in Costa Rica because I just can?t get down with the Charbucks. But their custom made house blend was smooth and just strong to off-set the mere 4 hours of sleep I got the night before nursing a sick toddler back to health.

The food? is prepared slowly and lovingly with fresh in-season ingredients, but ready for you to grab in a flash on your way to your afternoon story time. You can pick up one of their picnic-to-go packs (like ?The Actress? which is chock full of fresh cut veggies, fruit and protein to get you back in your superstar bod), the already infamous Kale Salad or a fresh pressed Panini. We sampled the Roast Beef with this amazing garlic, pesto rub and the Grilled Cheese, which had gruyere, sharp cheddar (not the orange die stuff), and blue cheese, topped with fresh figs and pressed between raisin bread. Needless to say, that went over too well with the tyke, I barely got a bite! Finish off lunch with one of the amazing deserts, like the Chocolate?Raspberry?Cupcake with Raspberry Mouse (which as far as Arya is concerned, we didn?t eat!?That?s for Edan and I to know, and her to never find out).

If you find yourself in this neck of the wood, stop by for a taste and tell them we sent you.

Coffee + Food, 5630 Melrose Avenue @ Larchmont (Please take note: there is no stopping on Melrose between 7-9 am and 3-7 pm).

(AP) ? A man who stole a car at gunpoint, shot at Phoenix police officers and then led them on a chase that ended with his suicide broadcast on national television was identified Saturday as a wanted felon with a long criminal history.

Jodon F. Romero, 33, was wanted for violating his parole for a weapons conviction and had numerous other violent crimes in his background, police spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson said.

At the end of an hour-long pursuit on an interstate west of Phoenix Friday, Romero pulled into the desert and an officer shot at him, although it appears he missed, Thompson said. Romero then walked off the dirt road, put a gun to his head and killed himself.

Fox News was covering the chase that began about midday Friday using a live helicopter shot from Phoenix affiliate KSAZ-TV. Anchor Shepard Smith told viewers that the video was supposed to be on a delay so it could be cut off if something went awry.

"We really messed up, and we're all very sorry," Smith said minutes after the suicide aired. Fox apologized for showing the violence on air. KSAZ itself was not airing the chase.

On Saturday, Thompson said police did everything in their power to de-escalate the situation, but Romero seemed intent on continuing a crime spree that began with a minor incident where he apparently hit a passing car with his hand, leading to a call to police.

As officers were heading to the south Phoenix area, they learned that a Dodge Caliber sedan had just been stolen at gunpoint from a nearby restaurant parking lot.

They spotted the car and gave chase, but pulled back when Romero running red lights and endangering the public, Thompson said. Instead, unmarked cars and a police helicopter began following him at a distance.

Romero drove into an industrial area and spotted two marked police units, with one officer standing beside one car talking with another officer. He veered into their lane and opened fire, missing the officers but hitting one patrol car.

He then got onto Interstate 10, heading west toward California at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

The police helicopter and unmarked police vehicles followed at a distance, and the Fox helicopter began its coverage.

Romero fired at the police helicopter during the chase, but didn't hit it, Thompson said.

About 75 miles west of Phoenix he got off the interstate and drove off into the surrounding desert.

He eventually stopped, got out of the car and began walking down a dirt road. That's when an officer fired one shot at him.

Although Thompson said it appear the shot missed, television footage shows Romero stumbling and falling down and appearing to feel his torso before waking into some brush.

That's when he shot himself in the head.

An autopsy will determine if he was actually shot by an officer as well.

Thompson said it was clear to officers they had to stop Romero from getting back to a populated area.

"Anybody who will shoot at police officers, that shows a total disregard for them, will shoot at anybody else," he said. "And this needed to be put to an end. Even after we backed out all the marked units he still continued to go."

Arizona Department of Corrections records show Romero was imprisoned from April 2010 to June 2012 for a felony weapons charge.

COACHING LEGEND BILL DELLINGER
The meet is named for legendary University of Oregon track and field coach Bill Dellinger. The Springfield, Ore., native and two-time NCAA champion for the Ducks was a three-time Olympian and won a bronze medal in the 5,000 meters at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He set two world indoor records and six American records during his career and in cross country, never lost a race at the high school, collegiate or post-collegiate level. As Oregon's cross country coach from 1968-98, Dellinger guided the Ducks to four NCAA men's titles and 12 top-three finishes. He also counted 13 conference and four district titles. Athletes under his mentorship received 45 cross country All-America honors and won eight Pac-8/Pac-10 championship and six regional crowns.

LOOKING AHEAD
?The Ducks head to the Pre-Nationals meet at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, Louisville, Ky., on Oct. 13. Following that meet, Oregon will compete at the Beaver Classic on Oct. 19 before the championship season begins with the Pac-12 meet Oct. 27 at Santa Clarita, Calif. (UCLA). That will be followed by the NCAA West Regional Nov. 9 in Seattle.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE TEAMS
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW
On the heels of their third NCAA top-five finish in the last five years, the Women of Oregon figure to be one of the more seasoned and talented squads nationally in 2012.
?Senior Jordan Hasay leads a host of upperclassmen rich with postseason experience, while newcomers Alexi Pappas and Allie Woodward could push the Ducks' depth and talent level up several notches this fall.
?Hasay is one of seven seniors on the roster, and will undoubtedly be one to watch in 2012. The Arroyo Grande, Calif., native was the 2011 NCAA runner-up, won the NCAA West Regional title and was third at the Pac-12 meet.
?She is now the most decorated runner in school history with 14 All-America awards combined between cross country and track and field.
?Fortunately, she won't be alone when it comes to leadership. Fellow seniors Becca Friday, Anne Kesselring, Sarah Penney and Taylor Wallace all have run championship-level races.
?Kesselring (Nurnberg, Germany) has three NCAA Championships appearances to her credit, while Friday (Bellingham, Wash.) has one, despite the fact that those two are more disposed to the middle distances during the track season.
?Penny (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) made her Pac-12 and NCAA West Regional debut in 2012, while Wallace (Klamath Falls, Ore.) has three straight conference cross country appearances.
?Junior Lanie Thompson emerged as a consistent fourth runner for the Ducks in 2011. The High Bridge, N.J., native has appeared in every championship level race for the Ducks each of the past two years to join Hasay and Kesselring on a very short list.
?The sophomore class is loaded with potential. Molly Grabill (Poway, Calif.) was the only freshman to run in the NCAA Championships for the Ducks in 2011. Megan Patrignelli (Monroe, N.Y.) made her debut at the Pac-12 meet, while middle distance specialist Laura Roesler (Fargo, N.D.) also added depth.
?The Ducks will need to replace their No. 2 and No. 3 runners following the graduation of Claire Michel and Bronwyn Crossman.
?To that end, Oregon has a pair of transfers and a number of freshmen.
?On of the most intriguing newcomers to cross country may already be on the team. Allie Woodward redshirted the 2011 season her first fall in Eugene, but the Green Bay, Wis., native impressed in the spring, taking third in the 10,000 at the Pac-12 championships, before finishing fifth at that distance at the NCAA Championships. She went on to win the U.S. junior title at 5,000 meters and placed eighth at the IAAF World Junior Championships.
?She'll be joined by a pair of senior transfers - Alexi Pappas from Dartmouth and Katie Conlon from Jamestown (N.D.) College. Pappas is a talented veteran distance runner who finished third in the steeplechase at the 2012 NCAA Championships.
?The Ducks also have a group of freshmen newcomers in Skylar Evans (Midlothian, Va.), Megan Fristoe (Bend, Ore.), Annie Leblanc (Repentigny, Quebec), Abbey Leonardi (Kenebunkport, Maine) and Ashley Maton (Bend, Ore.).

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW
With only three seniors on the roster, Oregon will be a young, but talented team in 2012.
The Ducks graduated four-time All-American Luke Puskedra and fellow senior Chris Kwiatkowski from last season's squad, but return seven runners from the 2011 Pac-12 Championships, and four who appeared at the NCAA West Regional.
The team will be led by Parker Stinson, a junior from Austin, Texas, who was seventh at the Pac-12 meet a year ago and 17th at the Regional. He'll be joined by Jeramy Elkaim, a sophomore from Livingston, N.J., who impressed as a freshman with a 20th-place finish at the league championships and a 38th-place showing at the Regional.
Ryan Pickering also continued the youth movement; the sophomore from West Palm Beach, Fla., was 39th at the 2011 Pac-12 Championships and also qualified for the IAAF World Junior Championships in the 10,000 meters.
The experience on the Oregon squad is impressive.
Junior Ben DeJarnette, from Mechanicsville, Va., has appeared in every championship race for the Ducks over the last two seasons, while Oregon's underclassmen look to become the leaders of the future.
The 2011 season proved to be a great testing ground for sophomores Boru Guyota (Portland, Ore.), Matt Jablonski (Cockeysville, Md.) and Cole Watson (Rogue River, Ore.) who all ran at the Pac-12 Championships.
The Ducks also featured juniors Tim Costin (Springfield, Ore.), Mitch Hunt (Fremont, Neb.) and Hank Morrison (Carmel, Calif.) and sophomores Colby Alexander (Strongsville, Ohio) and Daniel Winn (Portland, Ore.) during the 2011 season.
Oregon had a number of freshmen redshirt the 2012 season, including Chris Brewer (Vista, Calif.), Russell Hornsby (Williamsburg, Va.), Matthew Melancon (Eugene, Ore.) and Chad Noelle (Greene, N.Y.).
The six newcomers for 2012 will make for some intriguing additions to the roster, especially Trevor Dunbar, who should have an immediate impact. The senior from Kodiak, Alaska, was a two-time cross country All-American for the University of Portland before transferring to Oregon in January.
Dunbar was 35th at the NCAA Championships in 2011 as a junior to help the Pilots take eighth in the team competition (30:05, 10,000 meters). He finished 25th as a sophomore at the NCAA meet in 2010 (30:21).
The Ducks have also brought in Freddy Ovett (Melbourne, Australia) and Richard Goodman (London, England) from overseas, as well as transfers Patrick Todd (Virginia) and Matt Miner (Dartmouth) and freshman Joe Holvey from Eugene.
In recent seasons, the men have experienced success on a national level rarely seen in TrackTown USA. Oregon won back-to-back NCAA titles in 2007 and 2008, and followed that with a runner-up finish in 2009. Those results harken back to the era of the legendary Steve Prefontaine, when the Ducks won national titles in 1971, 1973 and 1974, were second in 1970 and third in 1972.

TRACK TOWN, USA, HERITAGE
?The last four years have certainly lived up to the heritage established by the legends of TrackTown USA. In 24 NCAA championships and 16 Pac-10 championships, the Men and Women of Oregon have won 14 championships and another 13 silver medals.

Long-Term Care Insurance And Your Loved One

Miscellaneous Written by Anonymous ??Friday, 28 September 2012 07:31 Insurance is a rather common purchase; people buy car insurance, health insurance, homeowner???s insurance, and even renter???s insurance. Long-term care insurance is just as valuable as these other policies, as it is designed to assist families in paying for the costs associated with senior care. he home care professionals at Always Best Care of Alamance, serving Alamance and Guilford Counties, as well as the communities of Burlington, Southern Greensboro, Jamestown, High Point, and Roxboro, know that the cost of elder care can become overwhelming for many families. As such, they encourage you to look into the value that long-term care insurance can provide.

hat Is Long-Term Care Insurance?
Long-term care insurance is exactly what it sounds; this kind of policy covers expenses that are associated with the long-term care of elderly individuals. Oftentimes, the assistance of home care professionals is necessary for an elderly individual to continue aging in place. For this reason, families may decide to call in the services of senior care providers, who assist with daily activities. These activities range from one case to another, but many times encompass grooming, dressing, eating, etc.
While the benefits associated with long-term care insurance vary from one plan to the next, this is the kind of assistance that the plan will, generally, cover.
What Should Your Family Look for in a Policy?
As with any form of insurance, long-term care insurance policies change from one company to the next. Likewise, insurance companies may offer a variety of plans to better meet the needs of a wider range of families. The best thing to do when choosing a policy is to talk with your loved one???s doctor to determine what to anticipate in terms of care. Next, schedule a meeting with an insurance professional to discuss the options available.
Collecting the Benefits of a Long-Term Care Policy
Another topic to discuss with your insurance professional is how to collect the benefits that the policy has to offer. The insurance company your family chooses may require you to submit claims on your own or it may work directly with home care providers. Ask your insurance professional exactly how claims are handled and if you will need to personally do anything to ensure that the benefits are dispersed.
The home care professionals of Always Best Care of Alamance know that long-term care insurance is an important part of a family???s financial plan. They encourage you to talk to your insurance provider about the policy options that are available to your elderly loved one.

Thereis no denying that online marketing tools have had major impacts in the online business world, thanks to the continued use of the internet. In some quarters, it is believed that online marketing will replace the use of offline marketing. Even then, a combination of both offline and online marketing can increase the performance of your business significantly. Given the unending competition, it is imperative for a business owner to arm himself with effective marketing tools in order to connect with their target customers in the best way possible. Here arethe top five marketing tools that can take your marketing campaigns to new heights.

Pay per click advertising.
Pay per click advertising is without a doubt one of the best marketing tools that guarantee immediate results, thanks to its unique characteristics. It is also the most lucrative and effective way of providing your website with instant traffic. Alongside that, the other outstanding feature that makes this tool stand out is its flexibility and ease of control. Having this marketing tool in your arsenal gives you an upper hand since you are able to control how much you spend in an attempt to increase traffic to your website. Most importantly, you can target your customers from any corner of the world.

Target link building.
The trick to starting an effective link building campaign is to know the quality of your website. The major advantage of link building is that it helps your web pages rank high in major search engines, thereby increasing traffic to your website. Since you want to be seen and recognized by potential clients, link building is an effective way of establishing your reputation and creating your own online brand. Even though it is a very effective tool, it can fail to deliver desirable results if not well used.

Brochures and flyers.
These are marketing tool that any business can not do without. However, effective brochures and flyers must be visually attractive and must contain a link to the company?s website. The beauty is that flyers are cheap and easy to design. Even though brochures are a little expensive, their marketing power is worth the price. They are also easy to design and use.

Catalogues.
Catalogues are primarily used to display website details in a marketing campaign. Since most of them are printed to the highest quality standards, most clients and potential customers tend to keep them for quite long. And since they are used mainly for direct marketing, many people choose to do their shopping by the use of catalogues. This explains why they are still effective marketing tools.

Custom printed stickers.
The popularity of stickers is increasing every single day, at least if the number of businesses using them are anything to by. This is because printers are affordable and very versatile; they can be designed in different shapes, colours and materials. Customized stickers are very effective in promoting products or services of a given business, thereby helping in increasing profitability.

Online marketing tools are superior because they increase production and profitability while spending less money. Offline tools, on the other hand, are preferred given their long history and immediate results. Whether you are introducing a new brand in the market or promoting your existing ones, the above listed marketing tools are necessary instruments for effective marketing.
